In 1996, Dr. Mark Laaser www.faithfulandtrueministries.com in his pioneering effort, felt the need to further develop sex addiction recovery at the local level. Dr. Laaser set forth a model which would encourage the start of support groups within the Evangelical Church. Two men in Jacksonville were challenged by the need to see recovery in a Christian support group model. Thus, Faithful and True of Jacksonville, Inc. was born in Jacksonville on Thursday, February 7, 1997.

These two men met faithfully every Thursday for several weeks. Eventually, word got out and by the end of that first year there was enough consistent attendance to start a second meeting (in 1998) at another church within the city. A few years later, a Wives meeting was started and met in a different room down the hall from the mens meetings. Several other mens meeting were added.

The men started a Mens Retreat on Easter weekend with as many as 24 attending. This special time at Marywood Catholic Retreat Center in nearby Switzerland, FL attracts some of the most talented clinicians who are experts in sexual recovery. They offer attendees hope with up to date tools for recovery from sexual addiction.

In the year 2000 Faithful and True of Jacksonville, Inc. teamed up with L.I.F.E Ministries in Orlando www.freedomeveryday.org for the purpose of accountability and sharing of resources. This valuable partnership has provided training for group facilitators (group facilitators are not ornate leaders, but provide the needed services, time, sobriety and dedication to make sure a Faithful & True support group runs smoothly).

As the Faithful & True groups have grown in Jacksonville, they have:

Provided scholarship funds for intensive counseling at workshops hosted by Dr. Laaser & others

Open meetings for family and friends to learn more

Opened the closed church doors that hid the phenomenon of sexual sin in the church

Educated Pastors about sex addiction

Made presentations about sexual sin at mens fellowships, retreats and Bible Conferences

Hosted one day workshops for the edification of its members

Provide a network list of local therapists for members and their family

Utilize phone lists for members to call each other

Obtain printed articles on healthy sexuality for distribution to members

Encourage mentoring, honesty and openness within the group, their workplace, church & home

Continued to be self-supporting with generous offerings from its membership

It is estimated that over 300 families have been impacted by Faithful and True of Jacksonville, Inc. in Jacksonville, FL.
